How it works:

Self-directed training

Your client trains with Cogmed 5 days per week for 5 weeks, from the comfort of their own home. Each training session they'll work for less than an hour on a set of neuroscientifically validated exercises, specifically designed to increase attention.

Easy progress overview

The program dynamically adjusts the level of difficulty to your client's capacity and performance.
Your streamlined provider interface automatically logs their work, so you can monitor progress and provide targeted support when needed.

Regular check-ins

Throughout their training you'll have regular check-ins with your client to discuss progress and sustain motivation. You have flexibility to tailor Cogmed to fit their needs and schedule, and coordinate the program with any other activities you are doing.

Frequently asked questions:

What ages can use Cogmed?

With Cogmed's flexible training protocols the program can be tailored to suit both children and adults, in general from age 4 and up.

Who can benefit?

Research shows that Cogmed can benefit individuals both with and without cognitive impairment.

However, people who struggle with symptoms of attention deficit are likely to experience more significant benefits in their everyday life.

ADHD, stroke, traumatic brain injury, cancer treatment recovery, and premature birth often have attention deficit as a key component, and individuals with these conditions are likely to be good candidates for Cogmed.

How long does it take?

The Cogmed program takes roughly 20 hours for the client to complete in full, and the baseline configuration is that they train 50 minutes per day, 5 days per week, for 5 weeks.

It's possible to adjust the daily training length to 25 or 35 minutes, and to train 3 or 4 days per week instead. With these adjustments, it can take anywhere between 5 and 13 weeks to complete Cogmed.

All configurations have been designed to yield similar effects at the end of training, so you can adapt it to suit the needs and schedule of each individual client you work with.

What are the system requirements?

The system requirements for the Cogmed platform are any modern browser on a computer, tablet or mobile phone with a reliable Internet connection.

Recommended browsers are Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge or Apple Safari. The Cogmed platform does not support Internet Explorer.

We also recommend clients use headphones and, if working on a computer/laptop, a handheld mouse.

What qualifications are necessary to become a Cogmed Coach?

Research shows that a Cogmed training yields the best results when delivered by a practitioner who is familiar with the challenges associated with attention deficit, and has formal training in the administration of programs of this kind. The exact professional requirements differ somewhat across markets, but as a general guide a masters degree or license to practice in one of the below fields (or an equivalent education or profession) will fulfil the requirements:

  • psychology
  • speech language pathology
  • occupational therapy
  • special education

How can I get trained as a Cogmed Coach?

Training to use Cogmed is built into the program itself in the form of our online learning platform, the Cogmed Learning Center. Access to this asynchronous onboarding is included in the cost of a license.

The training consists of short videos and articles describing everything from technical details such as how to set up trainings for your client and monitor their progress, our best practices for ensuring they stay motivated throughout the program, and details about the 20+ years of science behind Cogmed.

"In our practice, we saw student after student go through the Cogmed program and find that they could now better manage their lives."

"I started feeling the benefits pretty quickly. I was staying engaged and focused for much longer in class, my memory was getting sharper, and that kind of brain fog that comes with a concussion was clearing up."

"Coming across this program was really a blessing, because it's hard to find
something that's as scientifically based as Cogmed is."
