Young boy suffers from ADHD, autism spectrum disorder

Age: 7
Gender: Male
Location: Coconut Creek, Florida

Background: For this young seven year old from Florida, it was difficult to pin-point exactly what would help his attention problems. Psycho-educational testing had showed that although he had a fairly even profile of average cognitive abilities with no particular strengths or weaknesses, he displayed symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, ADHD characteristics, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. His parents decided to try Cogmed training to address some of the boy’s symptoms.

Key challenges:

  • Could not follow instructions
  • Was not interactive with others
  • Had trouble staying on task when  he was told to do something
  • Suffered from significant attention problems

Training outcomes:

  • Increased verbal output
  • More socially engaged
  • Follows directions more consistently
  • Better able to be redirected
  • Overall improved independent task completion
