Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is a term used to describe those in the aging population who experience reduced cognitive functioning at a faster rate than is expected from normal aging. People diagnosed with MCI are more susceptible to dementia and Alzheimer’s disease later in life. Because MCI is often associated with these more severe cognitive disorders, it is important that this portion of the aging population especially has available suitable interventions to curb the reduction in cognitive functioning. Because the symptoms of MCI are thought to be caused by deficits in working memory, researchers are looking at the possible benefits of Cogmed training on those diagnosed with MCI.
