Intelligent college student takes hours longer than most to finish tests

Age: 19
Gender: Male
Location: South Bend, Indiana

Background: This young man, a freshman at Notre Dame University, has superior intellectual ability, but was constrained by his poor working memory capacity.  He suffered from an anxiety disorder, ADHD, poor auditory working memory, and slow processing speed. He is a high achieving young man, but was increasingly frustrated and anxious about the cognitive deficiencies that prevented him from functioning at the level of which he felt he was capable. Despite being an exceptionally hard worker and a good student, he found that tests took him much longer than his peers, and he was being stretched at school beyond what he could handle.

Key challenges:

  • Was struggling in college despite being very intelligent
  • Could not stay focused for long periods of time
  • Spent hours on tests, much longer than other students
  • Suffered from an anxiety disorder – became frustrated

Training outcomes:

  • Completed assignments in half the time
  • Feels that he is far more efficient when studying and completing assignments
  • He is able to listen and to remember classroom lectures
  • Completes his tests in a much more timely manner
  • Brought his working memory capacity up to a superior range
