Research title: Individual differences in working memory and reading
Researchers: Meredyth Daneman and Patricia A. Carpenter
Published: Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior
The aim of this study was to identify the cause of poor reading comprehension. The researchers demonstrated that inefficient processes, which limit the amount of information maintained in working memory, contributed to poor comprehension. The study showed that there is reason to think poor reading comprehension is correlated to poor working memory.
