Feasibility and efficacy of WM training in children with cochlear implants

Deaf children with cochlear implants may benefit from working memory training Cochlear implants can restore some hearing to deaf children. But whether they can use that hearing to effectively learn language and acquire verbal skills depends on the strength of their working memory. William Kronenberger, PhD, a clinical psychologist and researcher at the University of Indiana, is exploring the use of working memory training to aide these children as they learn language skills.

Adults of all ages see gains after training working memory

Helena Westerberg, PhD, demonstrates for the first time that working memory training is effective for adults of all ages with healthy working memory. Most notably, adults between the ages of 60 – 70 years of age increased their working memory to “regain” the working memory capacity of someone between 20 – 30 years of age.

Clinical results of Cogmed’s Working Memory Training

The subjects were all children with ADHD undergoing Cogmed training at LA area private practice. The subjects were aged 7 to 17 at time of training. 33 subjects are included in the data for testing four weeks post training. 17 children are included in the data for testing six months post training.
