Key Populations
The more that is understood about the brain, the more it is clear that it responds and changes based on the type of activity it undertakes. This carries large implications for remediating cognitive weaknesses. Because of the important role of working memory as a foundational cognitive function informing and enabling our other cognitive abilities to operate at their maximum potential, many researchers are excited to see to what extent working memory training specifically can help populations suffering from cognitive problems/learning disabilities of various kinds.
The research that supports Cogmed training as an effective intervention to improve working memory has shown positive results for those who are constrained by their working memory manifesting itself in the form of ADHD, learning disabilities, and generic attention problems.
There are many reasons why someone may be constrained by their working memory. Research continues to be done investigating the efficacy of working memory training on various populations presenting symptoms of attention deficits and poor cognitive functioning.
Below are brief summaries explaining the case for working memory training in different groups of people – they differ greatly from each other, but share a common challenge in working memory capacity.
